Step 1

Look into the different roles that are out there, there are so many (including non-coding roles). Take the time to do your research and ask questions!

Step 2

Think about which roles align with your interests and goals. What do you enjoy doing? What do you get energy from? What are your monetary goals? Use this information to help guide you in your decision making.

Step 3

Find out what skills you need to develop. Ask people that are in the role and that you are interested in and have a look at different job descriptions.

Step 4

Think about the transferable skills you have. What skills do you already have that will be applicable to the role you want to apply for? Highlight these!

Step 5

Develop the additional skills you might need. There are so many different options out there to gain certain skills. You can self teach using free courses, books, YouTube, attend a bootcamps or take classes.

Step 6

Network! This can help you a long way, they can provide you with more information on the role you are exploring, provide you with referrals or insider information about companies that you might be interested in working for and help prepare you for what to expect.

Step 7

Go go for it! - You will probably never feel a 100% ready and you don't need to be! No employer expects you to know everything, we all develop and learn more once in our roles. So go for it and start applying!
